Probable XI labels

How we label each member of a probable XI

A probable XI is not an official playing XI. We carry four labels — Confirmed, Likely, Doubtful, Unavailable — and link the source for each player where one is available. A Confirmed XI is one we have a board or franchise feed for. Likely describes two independent sources. Doubtful is single-source late news. Unavailable is verified.

Selection meeting

What selector meetings reveal, and what they don't

Reading between the newsreel

Selection meetings are usually private, but the presser after them usually gives away two or three signals — workload, batting order, and whether a spinner is being groomed. We tag each report with the confidence label that fits the source. Some readers treat the presser as the leak; we treat it as the only verifiable surface.
